Union Minister of State for Education Sukant Majumdar told the Parliament that the creation of vacancies and their filling is a continuous process. These vacancies arise due to retirement, resignation and additional requirements due to increased number of students.

A large number of teaching and non-teaching posts are vacant in central universities located across the country. There are 18 thousand 940 posts of teachers in central universities, out of which 5 thousand 60 posts are vacant. Whereas if we talk about non-teaching posts, out of a total of 35 thousand 640 posts, 16 thousand 719 posts are vacant. Overall, if seen, 21 thousand 779 posts are vacant. This list of vacant posts is till 1 April 2024. Let us tell you that according to the official website of University Grants Commission, there are a total of 56 central universities in the country.

Posts have been filled under a special campaign

In response to a question asked in Parliament, Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar has said that Central Universities have been instructed to fill the vacancies in a regular manner. The job of filling the vacant posts is of Central Universities. He has said that more than 9 thousand 650 posts have been filled in the institutions through special recruitment campaigns. Out of these, 1281 posts are for Scheduled Castes (SC), 634 posts are for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and 2011 for Other Backward Classes (OBC).

Instructions have been given to the institutions

He has said that guidelines have been issued from time to time for the institutions for the recruitment of non-teaching staff. So that they can follow the reservation policy of the Government of India circulated through DoPT in this regard.
